Heroes

I met my step-son, Ken, when he was about 20 years old.  He and I became good friends.  I have always known him to be honorable, fiercely loyal and protective.

He is currently in the Army and just returned from Afghanistan.  He was involved in an "incident" where his armored vehicle was blown up by a mine.  His father and I have seen the pictures.  There is no way that anyone could have survived that.

He did and so did 3 others.  He woke up after the blast and when he realized what had happened, he became instantly alert.  He managed to get himself out of the vehicle.  Then he did what was necessary to help his buddies out.  He sustained burns when he reached in to pull them out.

When my husband was finally able to speak to him after the incident, he asked "Son, what were you thinking?  You were injured and should have taken care of yourself."

Ken answered the only way he could, truthfully.  "Dad, those guys with me were just kids, even injured I knew that if I didn't do anything they would not have survived".

It's Caturday!

I love my cats.  They provide so much humor in my life.  I would like to introduce you to them.

This is Dulcie.  Her full name is Mi Duclie Corazon.  She is no longer living with us.  But she is the mother of the two that live with us now.
Spaz is the only survivor of her first litter.  And she comes by her name honestly.  She is my Spaztic Cat.  She loves to hide in the most obvious places.

And this is my Smokie.  She used to live with Larry's son , Ken, but he left her for me to babysit while he went to visit his Mom for 2 weeks.  That was about 5 years ago, but it's not his fault that she lives with us.  I wouldn't let him take her home.

She likes to wear flip flops.  Smokie cares about comfort not style.  lol

This is one of my favorites from lolcats:

My 2 Sons

I keep promising to post regularly, but life keeps getting in the way.

We had a tense few hours last week.  Both of my husbands sons are in the military and both are in Afghanistan.  I received a call from my step-daughter about an injury sustained by Ken (the oldest). For about 1 hour (I checked the phone log, cuz I thought it was 3-5) all we knew was that he had been injured and that he was OK. We finally got the details. His armoured vehicle ran over a mine. He got out right away but went back in for the other guys.  He said he had to because they were just kids and needed his help.   He had a concussion, neck and back injuries and he inhaled the chemical in the fire extinguisher.

His brother, Larry Jr, called a couple of days later.  All he heard was that his brother was injured.  His Dad explained the accident and the extent of Ken's injuries.

As a rule, I do not like to impose my political views on others and don't want theirs.  This is not a forum for politics.  I was not going to put this type of topic in my blog because I know that some are against us being in Afghanistan.  The right or wrong is not what this is about.

This post is about 2 boys that I care about and the danger that they are in.  Please take a moment (regardless of you opinion of the military) and pray that these 2 boys and all their companions in the service come home to their loved ones.

Thank you
